Akira Schmids Nhl Debut

Swiss Akira Schmid takes over the net for NHL’s New Jersey Devils

Akira Schmid’s NHL debut

Akira Schmid, a former goaltender for the SCL Tigers, made his NHL debut for the New Jersey Devils in the third period of their game against the Buffalo Sabres on June 7, 2021. Schmid stopped all 10 shots he faced in relief of starter Nico Daws, helping the Devils secure a 5-2 victory.

Schmid’s performance

Schmid’s performance was particularly impressive considering that he had not played in an NHL game since the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. He was originally drafted by the Devils in the fifth round of that draft, but he spent the past three seasons playing in the Swiss National League.

In his NHL debut, Schmid showed off the skills that made him a highly touted prospect. He is a quick and agile goalie with good reflexes and puck-handling skills. He also has a calm demeanor, which helped him stay focused under pressure.

Schmid’s performance is a positive sign for the Devils, who have been looking for a reliable backup goalie for several years. He could be the long-term answer in net for the Devils, who are hoping to make a playoff run next season.
